The notion of extriangulated categories was introduced by Nakaoka and Palu in [H. Nakaoka, Y. Palu, Extriangulated categories, Hovey twin cotorsion pairs and model structures. Cah. Topol. Géom. Différ. Catég. 60 (2019), no. 2, 117–193]. Extriangulated caegories unify the following cases:
● exact categories
● extension-closed subcategories of triangulated categories
● some categories which are neither exact categories nor extension-closed subcategories of triangulated categories.
